 2023 Schedule is a work in progress, potential events listed below. Dates are May 4 – 7, 2023.  Kanab can accommodate about 250-300 guests. Do try to be here Thursday, as we’ll have some special events that afternoon only, plus we hit the ground – walking – Friday morning.

This Shivoo/Gathering is all about the hounds and well-behaved hounds are invited EVERYWHERE. Your Greyt Read Book is your bible for the event and will have the final schedule. You’ll get these Books when you arrive, and a PDF will be sent to your email a week before the event.

Best Friends Tours

You do not want to miss visiting Best Friends Animal Society. Best Friends Tours need to be scheduled way in advance. Call 435-677-6486. You can drive your car behind the tour van and so keep your hounds with you. Ask for this when you call. Schedule a tour so you don’t miss ANY Shivoo events – Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday afternoon is best.  There is a Grand Tour, and then specific tours for each area. Read about them here, and call NOW to register. They fill up fast and May is a very busy month in Kanab. 

Food

Your registration fee includes three meals (Friday dinner, Saturday and Sunday lunch) and a surprise on Saturday night.  Full menu under Featured Events – because at this Gathering, food is a featured event! Vegetarian, Vegan and Gluten Free options available. (Vegan and GF are special ordered, so please choose these ONLY if you really mean to eat them as your name will be on them) For Saturday night’s picnic dinner at Angels Landing, you’ll call a Kanab restaurant and get a take out meal. 

FUN-draising

Sighthound Shivoo – aka Greyhound Gathering – Kanab is all about having a good time and raising funds to help hounds. Through your generosity at Greyhound Gatherings since 1999, well over a half a million dollars has been donated to sighthound groups around the world. ALL LIVES MATTER.  Here’s where you will have the chance to help more hounds find forever homes.

• Live Auctions at every lunch and dinner – Four total
• Silent Auction at Library. Grab Bag – $1 a ticket. Over 200 grab bags valued from $5 – $200.
• Greyt Wheel of Fortune – spin the wheel and win a prize! $1 ticket.
• Nail Trimming

–       Ellen Degeneres to be the Grand PooPa of the Parade
–       Hunter Hayes, Trent Reznor, Neko Case (all greyhound lovers) to sing at Angel’s Landing. Chris Isaak (I know he is destined to be mine) would be the bomb, too.

Thursday is a fabulous day to be here. Hang in Kanab on your own time. Take your Best Friends Tour.  Hike. Explore the town and shops. It’s all fun. 

4 – 6 pm – Hounds Got Talent and Humans Got Tattoos – HGT.  Show off your funny, quirky, silly talented hound. Prizes for all “talents” – and I use that word loosely. Sit, stays, downs, attacking a vacuum, eating an olive, devouring water from a water gun – all ‘talents’ applauded. The funnier, the better. No ROO talents, as we will do those as a group. We gather at Best Friends Roadhouse and Mercantile stage. Bring good blankets as ground is gravel. We will have chairs, but yours are welcome too. You will be able to pick up pre-ordered goodies from Claudia.
