Upcoming Meet & Greets

Groups all over the country are inundated with greyhounds needing homes. If we don't find homes for them, they die.

If you know of someone interested, please tell them about the Meet & Greets, and ask them to call me.

Looking forward to seeing some of those lovely dogs -- and people too -- at these upcoming Meet & Greets. Last week, I got to see Willie, Goldie, Al, Koty, Curt, Hope, Dominic, Blue, Pharoah, Don, Annie, and Stalker -- and their wonderful, loving owners. Thank you so much for stopping by and letting me pet your dogs, and helping others to learn about greyhound love!

Email Addresses

If you have an email address, and I don't have it, please contact me ASAP. It's really easy for me to stay in touch that way, so I'd appreciate adding your email address to my list. 435-644-2903 or claudia@greyhoundgang.com

Greyhound Gathering - Kanab 2001

The Gathering - Kanab 2000 was a rousing success. Over 240 humans and 200 hounds descended on Kanab, and a good time was had by all.

Next year's Gathering will be April 27-29th, 2001. Make your hotel reservations now, as rooms will fill up fast, and there will be a cap on the number of people and dogs that can attend.

Activities will include:

  • Lots of greyt meals
  • Best Friends Tour
  • Hikes
  • Greyhound Fun Run
  • Parade
  • And much much more

Medical Needs

By now you know that caring for a greyhound brings you lots of love, but it can also bring you medical bills.

I have over 50 files of medical information based on my 15 years of working with greyhounds. Greyhound's medical needs are different than other breeds, and many vets are not aware of their special needs.

Medical information I have that pertains particularly to greyhounds, includes:

  • Anesthesia
  • Blood Work for greyhounds
  • Tick Diseases
  • Eye Diseases
  • Foot/Toenail Diseases
  • Spinal problems
  • Arthritic problems
  • Thyroid Issues
  • Cancer
  • And more...

Additionally, because I have had over 200 greyhounds come through my home, I can give you help with pinpointing what is wrong.

Please do not hesitate to call me when you have a medical concern -- either before or after you've been to the vet. I can help, and save you money.

For instance:
A Limp
This can be something as simple as a pulled muscle, or arthritis or can be something as awful as cancer or valley fever. And unfortunately many greyhounds as they get older are dying of cancer. I know what to look for and ask for with your vet. Please call. A phone call to me could help you help your dog.

Licking
Dogs usually lick an area that is bothering them. Allowing a dog to continue to lick will only aggravate the spot, and make it worse. I have info on allergies, and how to stop the licking and more.

Pesticides
They can cause cancer, vomiting, skin irritations. Letting your dog lick his paws after he's run in your yard, and the bug man was just there is an invitation to cancer in the future. I've got info on safe pesticides.

ID TAGS
The contract you signed states that you will keep an ID Tag -- yours and the Gang's on your greyhound for the life of your greyhound. If you have lost the Gang's tag and need another, please contact me and I'll send you one.

TOE NAILS
You should be cutting your dog's toe nails weekly to keep them trim and short. They should not go beyond the pad of your greyhound. I have clippers for sale, you need the heavy-duty kind. I'll also trim nails at any Meet & Greet for free.

FAT
Do not let your greyhound get fat. Fatness just creates more medical bills for you, and more medical issues for your greyhound. They are not built to be fat. You are not making them happy when they are fat. A high-quality kibble, not canned, and limited treats (break them in half if you need to give treats) will keep your greyhound svelte, healthy and happy.

Arthritis Care

Arthritis is in almost every greyhound's future. You can help prevent the onset of arthritis by giving your dog Glucosamine and Chondroitin Sulfate.

My web site has tons of information about these products -- Q&A, Price Comparisons, Overview, Testimonials, Links to other sites and more.

Please do you and your dog a favor by purchasing a high-quality Glucosamine, and giving him or her 1500 mgs a day for at least two months.

Glucosamine is all natural, and will not harm your dog. It can only help, as it helps to replenish the synovial fluids and make it easier for your dog to get up and play and feel good!

FYI -- It is good for humans too. I've been giving it to the dogs and taking it myself for over 2 years.
