Greyhounds tend toward bad teeth. Soft foods, too many antibiotics when young, no care from their owners, genetics can all contribute to mouths that often are in bad shape. Just about every greyhound which adoption groups rescue need dentals, in addition to spaying and neutering and other medical needs. These dentals are not just for cleaning, but also the pulling of teeth. Hounds have 42 teeth, and can live without all of them.
Ways to keep your hound's teeth clean:
- Raw turkey necks - yep - they can eat them, and it works on the gums, and teeth tartar. RAW.
- Beef marrow bones, knucklebones. I only let them chew on these for about 15 - 20 minutes. Then throw away.
- Cleaning of teeth. yep - toothbrushes, and toothpaste just for dogs
- Water additives that keep bacteria at bay
