Leg Up Fund

The Gang has always had a special place for special needs greyhounds. Those that owners don't want, and other groups don’t have the time, expertise, or money to handle. This has included greyhounds, who:

Have fractured bones
Are Shy/spooky
Initially Act Aggressive
Are Older
Require extensive medical work
Have Expensive medical issues

Marilyn Varnberg, founder of Greyhound Adoptions of Florida in Summerfield, FL also takes in greyhounds requiring special care. She called the Gang with a plea.
“Please help me, help the greyhounds that aren’t getting into homes because of broken hocks while racing. They can't race anymore, so owners don't want them. Most adoption groups can't afford the time & money to fix. I just can’t let these dogs not make it into homes just because someone doesn’t have the money. Can you help?”

So the Gang started the Leg Up Fund to help. Proceeds from our auction, starting in May, goes to these dogs' medical bills.

In addition, the Gang will give a 4-month supply of glucosamine (value $30) & Sue Ross of Silk Road Collars is giving a $30 gift certificate to anyone that adopts one of these deserving dogs from Marilyn and Greyhound Adoptions of Florida.

Marilyn nicely pleaded with a few vets in her area, and they graciously agreed to give her a discounted rate on care. Marilyn will do all the rehab. Repair of a broken hock can range from $350 - $3500. Rehab takes 4- 12 weeks as each instance will be different.
