Hikes and
other Places you can take your Hounds
We'll be doing an organized
hike on Friday and Sunday. Where we will hik will be in your Greyt Read booklet.
Here's an idea of some
of the walking areas near town:
- Squaw Trail
Center Street to Parry Lodge. Take street between Middle School and Parry
Lodge. Go to the end. Park in the lot. Climb over the dirt. You'll be in a
canyon. If you go to the end, you can take a very steep climb up to the top
of the cliffs. It is a bit dangerous for dogs, some rock jumping to get to
the trail. The trail is steep and narrow, but only until you reach the top.
It's worth it, if you like to walk uphill, as you'll have a panoramic view
of Kanab.
- Pugh Canyon
Go to light and head East toward Lake Powell. Turn into the Golf Course. Follow
it to the right, and take a right at the intersection to the end. You'll see
orange fencing in front of you. Park car on side of road, and walk around
the fencing. You'll see a sand road off to the right. It will go to a waterfall
about 2 miles down. Creek bed on the right, cliffs on the left.
- Fake Lakes
Take 89S towards Fredonia. Go to Kanab Creek Ranchos sign and take Kanab Creek
Drive. Go about 1.5 miles to Powell Rd, and take a left. Go to the end. You'll
see fake lakes (sewage ponds) in front of you. Take a right before the ponds
on a dirt road. Go through the gate, and park anywhere. Take any dirt road
and walk. If you take the circular route that goes up on the cliffs, the walk
will be about 2 miles.
